Retail Therapy

// A response to current harmful consumer trends, and a look into the future of retail.
Set in a possible 2035, the UK Government has been forced to impose legislative shopping restrictions, as a response to numerous ethical and logistical complications caused by decades of excessive consumerism and impulsive purchasing.

Shoppers are required to have a certain high-level of dopamine in their brain, in order to tackle emotionally driven and impulsive purchases. Their brains are scanned upon store entry, and then determined whether or not they are ‘safe to shop’. Shoppers artificially distort their brain chemistry by consuming black market ‘Happy Pills’ and dopamine coffees. Clothing is required to include honest labelling, with the intention of forcing shoppers to ask themselves - “do I really need this?”.
